General Manager NATO, Full time, Brussels

Are you the experienced and qualified General Manager we are looking for our Sports Centre NATO in Brussel? The centre includes indoor and outdoor facilities such as squash and tennis, swimming pool and a gym. The team onsite is comprised of the management team, fitness coaches, receptionists, lifeguards and freelancers. The Gym and reception are open from Monday till Sunday.

The primary purpose of this role is to lead profitable organic growth for our strategically important client contract with NATO. You will provide the support and development required to the Manager Health & Fitness to ensure we operationally deliver our KPIs, effectively run day to day operations and deliver the commercial outcomes outlined in our business plan. You will also be responsible for developing the strategy and functional plans to retain and optimise all aspects of this important client contract. This will involve ensuring that the client relationship is optimized in terms of exceeding expectations for client delivery, building a trusted strategic relationship with the client in order to identify growth opportunities so that we can ensure the ongoing commercial success of this strategically important client.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively within the organisation to drive optimisation of this contract, specifically the commercial growth and wellbeing services that align with the client’s workforce Wellbeing proposition. This includes working closely with all parts of the Group to develop strategies to achieve and exploit growth opportunities within this key client.
  • Deliver and exceed the income and gross profit targets agreed for NATO and any future contract secured in Belgium that is deemed appropriate.
  • Deliver long term success of contracts through developing client relationships and securing contract extensions/renewals for assigned Corporate Fitness facilities as and when they are due.
  • Support the Management Team to implement and evaluate the operational strategy to constantly meet and exceed the growth targets.
  • Contribution to the monthly functional plans for all contracts assigned, constantly reviewing and evaluating performance and creating efficiencies where required.
  • Provide effective and visible leadership to structure, manage, develop and motivate the team at NATO or any other teams within assigned contracts, to ensure that individual and team objectives are met. Mentoring individuals that have less experience within the overhead team as agreed with the CEO, to ensure growth and development across all levels of the business unit.
  • Work closely and collaborate with internal stakeholders across the business (including HR, finance, IT, propositions, marketing, CSR) and external stakeholders (including suppliers, contractors, specialists) to deliver and develop our Wellbeing proposition across Belgium.
  • Drive high performance, success and best practice within the team, adopting a ‘high challenge, high support’ approach.
  • Provide regular reporting to the High Five Management and the Group, summarising current and forecast performance levels across a range of metrics.

Desired essential experience

  • Bachelor degree / degree level educated in Sport Management /Health is a plus.
  • Language skills (fluent in English & French, Dutch is a plus).
  • Leading the operational delivery of multiple (corporate) gym facilities.
  • Developing and implementing operational business plans, budgets and goals.
  • Senior client management experience, with a proven track record in business-to-business contract management services within the public and/or private sectors.
  • Managing successful commercial partnerships with customers, suppliers and other significant third parties.
  • A willingness to embrace working within an insight-led culture whereby evidence-based. decisions are made in relation to the target operating model, including but not restricted to propositions, processes and people.
  • Working closely and collaboratively within a business unit leadership team to successfully deliver that business unit’s objectives and targets; and working collaboratively across the organisation.

  • Strong IT skills, being aware of new techniques, technologies and methods are desired.
